Christmas Card Display idea
Maybe you tape cards to the back of the door. Maybe you string them up along the top of the wall, or maybe line the cards up along your fireplace mantle. Here is a fun way to display your holiday greeting cards if you want to try something new.
Supplies: 2 x 4 ceiling tile, fabric, ribbon, light duty staple gun, picture screw hooks, heavy twine or rope, push pins
Make sure you have enough fabric to cover your board. Place your fabric on the floor, right side down, and then the ceiling tile, also right side down. Wrap the fabric around the edges, and staple to the board. Turn right side up, and place ribbon horizontally and vertically to make board look like a present. I also stapled these to the board. On the back side, I screwed hooks into the board a few inches in from the edges and then strung twine through them to create a hanger. I loved how it turned out last year.

One Fall Day
Hope you all had a nice weekend. We certainly enjoyed ours. I should have been getting ready for the Craft Social, but I had other projects in line.
The boy is crying not because he was hurt. He tried to lock me up in the garden and I yelled at him. Needless to say, he went back inside the house for a while.
This garden tool was pretty nice to use once the hard clay was amended with peat moss.
After planting the garlic, it was time to enjoy the leaves.

More Inspired Scribbles
I think I’m getting the hang of this. It’s pretty easy to do when you want to avoid washing dishes, folding laundry and the like. I’ve done a couple more since in magenta and green Sharpie. My cousin suggested I put them on t-shirts. Anyone out there use Cafepress.com?

Extraordinary Family Blessings
We celebrated the wedding of my sister-in-law and her boyfriend of three years. So much love and happiness this past weekend, and we’re still recovering! My husband’s relatives are staying with us and we’re all having so much fun. There hasn’t been a lot of time to blog, but I’ll return next week.

Crazy Doodling (Scribble Art)
I’ve always loved doodling. I used to cover my textbooks with brown paper bags (way before the cool pre-printed book covers) and by the end of the school year, they’d be covered in swirls and all sorts of patterns. So here’s my re-entry into the doodling world… I’m armed with my Sharpies and sketch book that I’ve had since college. It’s the perfect technique for me too. I can draw for a few minutes and leave it, come back to it after a little bit, or the next day or whenever. Maybe I can turn some of this into a coloring book for the kids. Abby and I made one together and she thought it was cool.
Please, feel free to look at the whole drawing by clicking on it. The full page doodle had a funny blob in the middle of the paper, so I tried to just color it in. Not so sure I like it, but it’s okay. More doodling later.
Checking out the Local Taste Fest
What is summer without a local carnival or food fest? We might not be at the swimming pool at lot, but tasting food… you’ll find us! We paced ourselves this time and went during lunch on two separate days. It was so nice not stuffing ourselves to oblivion, but I’m sorry we didn’t have a chance to taste everything. One day it rained, and vendors weren’t quite ready for the lunch crowd, but otherwise, it seemed like a successful “Taste”.
The Matcha Latte from TeaLula was great relief from the heat. It was like tasting green tea ice cream, melted. Mmmm… And, the Ryne Palmer (a.k.a. Arnold Palmer beverage) can’t be beat: fresh lemonade and fresh brewed tea. Uncle Dan’s, a new place in town, served up cheese pizza and cinnamon bread among other things. Both were tasty, but they ran out of calzones… bummer. I really wanted to try J.D. Kadd’s Smokehouse pulled pork sandwich. Since I’ve stopped working in the south suburbs, I haven’t found a sandwich that compares to the BBQ places near my old office. This one was nicely seasoned, not too salty, generous portions. One of our favorites was the Cajun Shrimp wrapped with bacon & remoulade sauce from Barbara at All on the Road. The shrimp were cooked perfectly, and the sauce had a nice kick. I’m such a sucker for cajun food.
Last year we tried the stuffed mushrooms from Cafe Zalute and were happy they were there again. The junk yard dawg fries at Dawg House Grill were a hit with our kids and us. What’s not to like: cheddar cheese, sour cream and bacon. Lastly, we had a nice portion of Salsaccia (Italian Sausage wrapped in a potato crust) from The 3 Olives. Never had this before, and while it was delicious, it was slightly salty for me. Can’t wait until next year.
