K&Company Paper Bundle and Sticker Giveaway

Two giveaways in one post! AH!! Sorry I missed yesterday, but I was finishing a project. Overextended me. Typical. Let’s see what this giveaway is all about.

I love paper… not for scrapbooking (mentioned before) but for just about any other type of paper crafting. These sets from K&Company just get me in the Christmas mood.

They’re cute background for these little gifts for my kids’ Sunday school teachers. This was a Pinterest inspiration, but I pieced together the gift bag. (Teachers, if you’re reading, would you skip the picture or cover your eyes. Sorry for ruining the surprise.) All you need are clear party favor bags. I cut the scrapbook paper into 3-3/4″ x 9″ strips, folded one end twice to make a little bag “bottom”. Stuff into the party favor bag and place your goodies.

Here are the last of my giveaways… two pretty sets of K&Company specialty paper (double-sided!) and accessories, and then two sets of Jolee’s Stickers. All these products are available at art and craft supply stores like Michael’s. Follow the raffle instructions below… and if you would prefer NOT to enter through Rafflecopter, just e-mail me at jtiu(at)comcast(dot)net with “K&Company raffle” or “Jolee’s Christmas sticker raffle” in the subject line. Good luck!

Snowflakes Paper Punch Mini Review and Stamps-Stickers Giveaway

Last week I was playing around with EK Success Snowflake Layering Punch. It’s a dream to use on cardstock, scrapbook paper, even cardboard cereal or snack boxes. I tried it on thin kraft paper and while it punched out a shape just fine, I found the paper too thin and some paper ripped. No fault of the punch. I wouldn’t use it on tissue paper or crepe paper for the same reason. The snowflake punch is available online and in most craft and hobby stores.

EK Success Snowflake Layer Punch

The great thing about the paper punch is that you get three different shapes from one punch. You slide a lever for the shape you want. Why would you want all those shapes? You could layer them and get a nice dimensional doo-dad to stick onto a card or scrapbook page.

In my case, I dressed up a plain wrapped gift for my nephew with the punches… I’m trying a minimalist look with kraft paper and yarn. I don’t knit or crochet, but somehow I’ve dug up a few skeins of yarn around here. Weird. But, look, it’s simple and festive. Make your wrapping thematic with any paper punch, or color of yarn.

Along the lines of snowflakes, how would you like to win this gift pack?

Snowflake stamps and stickers

It’s from the same fine company who makes the snowflake paper punch… and I really appreciate EK Success for giving me the opportunity to share these cool supplies with you. (Approx. value $45) Just follow the instructions below. You’ll have to comment for a chance to win, and entries will be taken until midnight, 12/15/12. Thanks!

Craft Product Review and Giveaway: Needle Felting Kit

Now that Halloween is over, are people onto Thanksgiving or are most people skipping it all together and going straight to Christmas? I know, I love Christmas too, but with Thanksgiving there are so many projects on my “to-do list”. Check it out. Aren’t these needle felting kits cute? They’re from Dimensions Needlecrafts. I love the woodland animal feel of the hedgehog and pony.

I’m working on this little guy:

The kit comes with step-by-step directions, 100% wool (all the amount you need), two felting needles, and a felting mat. In some kits you’ll also have embroidery thread, an embroidery needle, molds and/or stencils. If you’ve never felted before, this intro video by Dimensions shows the basics.

I thought this would be a fun project for me and my daughter, but 1) she thought it took too long, and 2) I was nervous about her using the felting needle. It’s sharp!  And because it has small barbs near the point, you can imagine that you don’t want to stick yourself accidentally. I have to say, the wool feels nice and is workable into a firm felt shape. The felting mat is a nice quality – think dense foam. I’ve seen some felting mats that look like hair brushes. Not sure how that works out. The mat gives a nice surface and lessens the chances of sticking yourself.

Felting needle comes with cover

So, I would say this particular kit is not exactly for kids (though my daughter is ten years old and a pretty darn good crafter). The instructions are very easy to follow… felting just takes time. We’re not quite done with our project yet.

So, make some time, grab one of these kits at your local craft store or online at Dimensions Needleworks for $10-$25, OR (and I’m so excited to share this!) enter to win one of the kits I’ve shown here! I’m so thankful for all the support this year from friends and readers… let’s kick of November with a giveaway! I have one hedgehog kit, one snowman kit and one pony kit to give away to three readers.

  • Snowman and hedgehog kits retail value, $9.99; Pony kit retail value, $24.99.
  • Prizes furnished by Dimension Needleworks (EKSuccess Brands™).

Just follow below for chances to win one of these needle felting kits! Good luck!

It’s just never been a huge holiday for my family, but I’m happy to report that my sort-of-anti-Halloween daughter has turned a new leaf and had lots of fun with her girl pals last night. As for my son, he brought in a haul! His friend and he had a great time trick-or-treating.

Eating Quinoa and Lentils :: Ready Made giveaway

Quinoa and lentils… not at the same time. That might not taste very good. But we are trying to include more healthy choices in our kitchen nowadays. Don’t you love light, crisp salads as we head into warmer weather? Here’s a pretty simple recipe for a tasty, Spring salad! My husband prefers this over couscous, and makes for a nice side dish.

Prepare 1 cup quinoa according to directions on package except include one carrot and celery, chopped coarse, and one bay leaf, ten peppercorns and thyme wrapped up in cheesecloth. It’s all for getting flavor in the quinoa… then I discarded all the veggies and herbs after it was done cooking. Set aside. Finely dice one cucumber and one celery stalk. Finely chop one or two green onions, and finely chop 1/4 cup cilantro. Blanch one 10 oz. package of sugar snap peas. Mix all this in with quinoa.

For the dressing grate or mince 1/2 to 1 tsp. of fresh ginger. Blend with 1/8 cup olive oil, 2 tbsp. rice vinegar, salt and pepper to taste. Add a 1/2 tsp. of curry powder if you’d like, too. Serve room temperature or chilled.

For another healthy recipe, check out the scoop on my easy lentil recipe at Niles Patch.

Do you have a favorite Spring recipe you’d be willing to share with me and our readers? I would love to share with you a chance to win a one-year subscription to Ready Made magazine (one of my new favorite sites and magazines). It’s pretty simple – share your recipe in the comment section, and you’ll be entered in a random drawing. Don’t forget to include your e-mail, so I can get in touch with you.

Comments will be closed Wednesday, April 20 at 5 pm (CST)

Thanks much! Happy cooking (and crafting) as always!

More (teacher) gift ideas

…and maybe something for you? Read on.

June just went by like a blur, and as the end of the school year approached, I was giving myself headaches thinking of small, thoughtful gifts for Abby to give to her teachers. As my husband so nicely pointed out, “We don’t have to give everyone a gift, you know?” I know, but at the same time, I think Abby really enjoyed every one of her teachers, the classes and everything she learned. And, I felt it was appropriate to give a little (let’s stress little) something.

For the reader, reading teacher, librarian – a handmade book wedgie. Sounds a bit nicer than book THONG. Haha. Abby picked out the beads and the charm at the bottom says, “Inspire”.

Book Thongs or Book Wedgies

For her main homeroom teacher, (along with this) we compiled a cookbook with favorite recipes shared and handwritten by the students. A couple of parents and I did all the scrapbooking layouts, and it took a few hours. Each page is different and the recipes range from “chocolate milk (pour syrup until your mom says stop)” to “Greek lentil soup (you don’t have to be Greek to eat this)”. This page was my daughter’s. She picked shrimp de jonge. Surprised?

Excerpt from Class Cookbook

Abby would tell me about her art teacher and how he taught her class that a little glue goes a long, long way. “A dot is a lot, that’s what he says, Mom.” So for the art teacher, a custom print that my husband and friend did, and stationery to match (printed at home). I just printed the picture at home on photo paper. It’s intentionally made to look like those motivational business posters or the funny de-motivational posters.

Custom print and stationery for art teacher

I cannot take the credit for the card layout. My cyber-acquaintance, author and designer, Amy Karol at angrychicken made these great cards with sayings. Please, check it out!

So, this might be fun. Would you like to share your teacher gift ideas or end-of-school-year traditions? If you do, we’d like to share some craftiness with you! We’ll randomly select a someone on Saturday, July 11 to receive an Abby-Julie book wedgie or custom 8-pack of stationery with your own quote. Leave your comment between now and Friday night (7/10, 11:59 CST) with an e-mail or some way so I can contact you. Many thanks, friends!
