Mugshot Monday: Tax Day and My Story

It’s a “two-fer” Mugshot Monday (yes, on Tuesday, again). Last week, we were recovering from the flu or some crazy virus that decided to infest my house. Luckily, it was just my little guy and I who were hit hard. My daughter had a sore throat, and my husband had his own issues… which we’re afraid came from bad food? All you need to know is that we were on. the. couch. sick. Nothing got done in this house. Nothing. Then I had to play catch up with our taxes, ugh. I was one of those people at the post office at the very last minute. Maybe next year I’ll hire someone. I don’t know why I punish myself like that.

Last week’s Mugshot Monday prompt was “What’s Your Story”. Like my husband says – I like reminiscing. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that as long as you’re not living in the past. My t-shirt quilt sort of says it all, and this morning’s mug (actually, my daughter’s) is resting on my high school yearbook. Read on, more pics!

Mugshot Monday: Waiting for the Car

Weekend was good – hope yours was too. Sorry this mugshot comes late today. Definitely no crafting or creating was had. And sometimes you need those days. But…

Brought our car in for service. You hope it’s an easy fix, you think it’s a slam dunk-I’m gonna be out of here in an hour- sort of thing. Nope, nope, nope. *sigh* Money hemorrhage day. Life happens.

I think some therapeutic sewing or drawing is necessary.

Random Thoughts Friday: Fall

I love fall for mornings like this.

  • Crisp fall mornings are the best.
  • Makes me want to redecorate my home.
  • But I’m not confident in decorating… nor organizing.
  • House looks like a tornado again.
  • Home should be the sum of all your experiences. I think Nate Berkus said that.
  • Some days I feel like I’m in a constant state of reinventing. self-transformation.
  • Some days, I’m like, “I just want to sit with a large cafe mocha and watch tv.”
  • Can I have an uninterrupted phone call with friends? Just once?
  • There’s a lot of fabric waiting for me in my basement.
  • So many works-in-progress here.
  • Maybe I could add a few more hours to my day – wishful thinking.
  • I planted spinach in the garden.
  • Had a giant monster rabbit find its way into my fenced-off garden.
  • More chicken wire fixes everything… I hope.
  • Sometimes the cool morning air is all I need to refresh my head.
  • Enjoy these pictures from yesterday’s fine fall morning.

I gotta clean these or just get new ones.

Forget the Chores . . . Too Nice Outside

I want to know if there are more chore-challenged people out there besides me. Would it surprise you to know there are dishes in the sink, laundry waiting to be folded, mail piling up? It comes and goes in cycles around here. And, honestly, it kills me.

It’s the part of me I dislike the most… my procrastination. I just get exhausted picking up after everyone, and I blame myself for not teaching my kids better, for not having the picture-perfect “Better Homes & Garden” home that’s ready for guests at the drop of a pin.

Here’s the thing – there’s so much I’d rather do. Like, today. We’ve been blessed with the most ridiculous March weather in Chicago. I want to hop on my bike, I want to finish some sewing projects, start other projects, eat lunch and write outside… So, I’m trying to give myself a pass today to not feel guilty about enjoying the day. Give yourself one, too, won’t you?

Lately, I’ve been struggling a little with writing, and I’m not sure if it’s because I’m trying to be someone I’m not on the website, if I’m just REALLY overextended with things, if I’m horrible at time management. It’s time again for me to reevaluate things and find my voice. Might tweak the site a little, also. (OH, Sorry if anyone has had issues with the comment box. It’s fixed now.) I’m just glad my family and friends are super supportive. 🙂

I’m looking forward to sharing some more of our February and March: birthday party ideas, rice krispie sushi and more cooking and crafting ideas. Also, if you’re interested, take a look at 30daysofbiking.com. Can’t wait to journal about my adventures.

(Origami) Crane Infestation and Finishing Projects

Remember this project? My daughter and I made about 300. Time to string these up.

I wonder how many people out there are like me – great ideas, just a little slow on the follow-through because 1) I keep thinking up more ideas, 2) I try to stay active with this kids and hubby, and 3) I actually need to sleep.

As for some of my summer projects that didn’t get done, I’m determined to finish them (like a chair I pulled from someone’s curbside trash, and bookcases for my daughter, the t-shirt quilt, reorganizing my office…yikes). What are your summer projects that didn’t get done? I’d love to hear from the internet universe. Maybe we can cheer each other on to the “finish line”.
