Mugshot Monday: Winter

Our last prompt of the year from A Year in the Life of An Art Journal. Hope you’ve all had a wonderful holiday season! You can bet my family has, despite someone me getting sick. Never fails, with all the crowds, late nights… someone’s bound to catch a bug. But, all is good. Nothing a little tea and sleep can’t fix.

Mugshot Monday: 12/30/2013

It’s been a great 2013, and I think I did what I set out to do, more living… less wishing and more making things happen. The website continues to change with hopes for great craft, food, and idea sharing, more timely postings, and not so much self-inflicted pressure.

12/24/2013: Waiting for Santa
From my home to yours, wishes for a craftful, wonderful, blessed 2014.

Mugshot Monday: Finally Snow

A Year in the Life of an Art Journal

Overnight snow means shoveling before my husband leaves for work. I often joke about the idea of a snow plow attachment for his wheelchair. Probably not going to happen.

So this was yesterday morning, a hot cup after clearing 3″-4″ of powder along the walks and driveway.

By the way, I’ve added a link below to the website that started this Monday prompt… just in case you feel like joining along. 🙂

Sickness in the House

Blizzard 2011 was memorable: kids playing in the streets, our neighbors helping dig people out, snowbanks that are four to six feet tall. But, as all good things do, it came to an end and my husband went back to work on Friday as did most everyone around here… except for my daughter. Little A is sick with the flu, so there hasn’t been too much going on here except for lots of snuggling on the couch, periodic temperature checks and lying around in PJ’s all day for her.

There’s been a lot of time spent in the kitchen these last few days… I need everyone to be back in school and work so I can stop eating so much! We did celebrate Chinese New Year at home, but will have the BIG family gathering in a few weeks… and then celebrated my husband’s birthday yesterday with a homemade bolognese lasagna (Saturday night went out with friends for a grown-up night). The house still smells like garlic and  rich Italian sauce.

Hilarious Product Placement

In the meantime, I’ll be back in full force next week. I’d love to do a little “craft-along” project with whomever would like to join.

Thank you, readers, for sticking around,
thank you for reading along,
thank you for all your comments both on the site and private.

It means the world…

Snow Log 2011 and Random Winter Thoughts

Snow log, star date 2.1.2011, time 06:00: 2″-3″ on the driveway and sidewalks. Light to moderate weight. 38 minutes to clear. Hehe…

Sunday, I watched the morning news and was surprised when they forecasted 13″ of snow by Wednesday morning. This morning, I shoveled the drive before my husband left for work… so here we are, done with January awaiting the epic snow storm of 2011. Incidentally, it was also described this morning in the media as “snow in amounts of biblical proportions”, “snow-pocalypse”, and “snow-maggedon”. Told my kids we might have a snow day (or two) soon, and reminisced about the snow drifts and plow piles being several feet above my head. That was 1979, I was six. My uncle was stuck in his car for hours, afraid he’d run out of gas before getting home.  I can’t remember if he abandoned his car at one point. That was the deciding factor for him and my aunt to move to a warmer climate.

You know what’s easy to do when you’re outside before the crack of dawn and all is quiet? Meditate. Well, sort of. My mind wanders all the time. I’m surprised I even stay focused at all, sometimes. In the winter months, I get really introspective, thinking where am I going, where have I been. Life has been a tremendous ride so far, and I would have never guessed I’d be where I am.  2011 has so much opportunity, and I think my biggest lesson I’ve learned is that for every “yes”, there is a “no”. It’s like the big yin and yang, finding balance in the force, that sort of thing – something I’ve struggled with for a long time.

Well, with all the snow that’s coming our way, there should be more time to think about all that…
