Mugshot Monday: Drink of Choice

Today’s prompt from “A Year in the Life of an Art Journal” was Drink of Choice.

Mugshot Monday: Drink of Choice

So, what’s in my mug nowadays? Today was Major Dickason’s from Peet’s. But on any given day, I might have a Sumatra from Starbuck’s or a blend from an independent roaster. I’m a purist. Love my French press. Well, honestly, I’m only making a cup for myself and the hubby. No need to break out the coffee maker.

Last December we took a tour of Intelligentsia Coffee in Chicago. And we went home with like four bags of freshly roasted coffee! It was divine – so silky smooth. So now I’m spoiled.

But, I gotta say after the one cup of coffee, I really try to stick with tea if I want something hot to sip. And what better way than to have loose leaf tea from our favorite local tea shop, TeaLula.

Birthday Party Ideas: Book Exchange Party and Printables

My daughter turned 11. Diapers one day… eye-rolling tween, the next. I joke. She’s a great kid, growing into her own person. How do they grow so fast? To celebrate her birthday, we hosted a simple evening with a few of her close friends and a book exchange. (I give her all the credit for choosing that.) Sharing books, swapping with everyone, tearing open the wrapped books… it was like Christmas all over again! The nice part: all gently used books. Bring one, leave with one; bring two, leave with two.

Keep going for the free printables!

Mugshot Monday: Oscar Night Hangover

Mugshot Monday: Oscar Night Hangover

Award shows are my “Super Bowl”. No parties necessary, just me and my family, rooting for our favorites. Don’t worry, I won’t go into a play-by-play review of the evening. There’s plenty of that going on. I totally missed the Red Carpet anyway. I will say this:

  • Twitter and Facebook make Award shows really interactive for me. So much humor out in the world.
  • The In Memoriam always chokes me up.
  • Wasn’t the music fun and inspiring last night?
  • I was really happy for Adele.
  • The ridiculous “boobs” song by Seth MacFarlane… Can’t tell you how many times I told the little one, “You cannot sing this in school! Do you understand? Do not sing this outside of this house.”

So, today I’m going to recover from the weekend: late Oscars night (I did start to drag, didn’t it?) and my daughter’s sleepover party. Fun times to share about her book exchange party.

Crafting for a Cause: CuddLeS for Claudia

(I appreciate you reading this whole post. Happy Valentine’s Day. –Julie)

About a year and a half ago, I had an idea (and I have lots of ideas) to make some goodies, sell them and give some money to a good cause. Tons of people do this, but I wanted to do this in honor of a terrific girl out in California for her 10th birthday. She turned 11 last September. OY!

The big idea: 10 for 10. I thought I could make ten blankets or maybe one item for ten months… for Claudia, the little girl in California. Proceeds from those ten items would go to the CdLS Foundation.  They serve people with Cornelia de Lange Syndrome and their families. Why the CdLS Foundation?

Claudia. She lives with CdLS. She is my cousin’s daughter. My list of cousins – ridiculous! My mom, oldest of seven, and my dad is #9 (or #10) of 14. Compute.

So, Claudia’s dad – think back and remember your very first best friend. That’s who my cousin is for me.

Yes, I look like a boy in Swiss Miss gear. (1977)

Continue for the crafty idea!

Mugshot Monday: I Heart Mondays

Mugshot Monday: Valentine's Day week

I enjoy Mondays for a few reasons. Return to routines. A little quiet. Sometimes even enough time* to work on drawing or sewing projects.

And now sharing “mug” shots.

Happy Valentine’s Day to you, friends!

*We’re not talking hours. Anywhere from 30 mins. to 1-1/2 hrs. at most.
