30 Days of Creativity – Day 11: Noticing

Day 11: Stop and look around you.  There is something in this room you’ve never noticed before. What is it?

There’s a little corner in our living room that often gets neglected or just unnoticed. Usually we have an end table and a pile of library books on the floor. Lots of sun comes pouring into this corner too… well, when it’s a sunny day, which has been far and few between this Spring. On this particular day, the kids have made a little tent, their little fortress. The perfect little nook for some imaginative play… I love that. And, I guess it’s not that I’ve never noticed this corner before, it’s that there’s a lot of fun, creative play in this space.

What space are you in right now? What do you notice?

Spotting a Trend: Lace

I could be totally off base, or completely late, but is there a lot of lace going on in the fashion world? The leftmost picture on the bottom… those dresses have Spanish influence, and have to admit, they remind me of my great-aunt’s tablecloth. From the fashion runways to the craft stores. Look at these pieces from We R Memory Keepers, Tres Elegant collection, their new line out in stores.

And these stamps from InkyAntics – I was lucky enough to see these at the StampScrapArt Tour last April. I know they’re stitch patterns, but there’s a certain lacy quality to them. I have yet to post my review on these.

**UPDATE** I wrote this article a few days before this posting, not even thinking of the Royal Wedding. Honest.

Did you like Kate Middleton’s dress? The Palace has a new fashion icon…

Royal Wedding Viewing Party (for one) menu

Let’s face it, there’s a bit of Royal Wedding fever, like it or not. My husband, not. Me, love it. Well, I like the pageantry, I like the fashions, the pomp and circumstance. I remember when Charles and Diana were married. I was only seven years old, and it was magical.

This time around, I haven’t paid a lot of attention to all the hubbub. How can anyone escape it? William and Kate are all over the news, but in my house there are two kids and we watch lots of kid shows. So, I’ve set DVR to record the coverage on Friday, you know, in case I don’t get my butt out of bed at 3 a.m. There’s a viewing party in my neighborhood at 5 a.m.! Alas, I don’t know if I’ll get there either. Besides, I have a kid to drive to school, and a household to run… DVR is the way to go.

I think I’m going to make a batch of blueberry scones, and buy some clotted cream and lemon curd tomorrow… ooh, and pick up some Earl Grey at TeaLula. I’d love to know if anyone else out there is having a viewing party.

Eating Quinoa and Lentils :: Ready Made giveaway

Quinoa and lentils… not at the same time. That might not taste very good. But we are trying to include more healthy choices in our kitchen nowadays. Don’t you love light, crisp salads as we head into warmer weather? Here’s a pretty simple recipe for a tasty, Spring salad! My husband prefers this over couscous, and makes for a nice side dish.

Prepare 1 cup quinoa according to directions on package except include one carrot and celery, chopped coarse, and one bay leaf, ten peppercorns and thyme wrapped up in cheesecloth. It’s all for getting flavor in the quinoa… then I discarded all the veggies and herbs after it was done cooking. Set aside. Finely dice one cucumber and one celery stalk. Finely chop one or two green onions, and finely chop 1/4 cup cilantro. Blanch one 10 oz. package of sugar snap peas. Mix all this in with quinoa.

For the dressing grate or mince 1/2 to 1 tsp. of fresh ginger. Blend with 1/8 cup olive oil, 2 tbsp. rice vinegar, salt and pepper to taste. Add a 1/2 tsp. of curry powder if you’d like, too. Serve room temperature or chilled.

Do you have a favorite Spring recipe you’d be willing to share with me and our readers? I would love to share with you a chance to win a one-year subscription to Ready Made magazine (one of my new favorite sites and magazines). It’s pretty simple – share your recipe in the comment section, and you’ll be entered in a random drawing. Don’t forget to include your e-mail, so I can get in touch with you.
